Letterpress-printed Literary Dymaxion Globe
Designer, printer, crafter

Dymaxion maps, developed by architect Buckminster Fuller, are the most accurate way to depict Earth’s land masses proportionally to one another. Dymaxion maps can be manipulated in a way that allows for them to be folded into three-dimensional globes.
This map was letterpress printed, using pressure printing for the continental outlines and ocean, and metal type for the text. The text that sits on each of the continents contains the title and author of notable works that are attributed to each of the respective continents.
This edition of 18 was printed on a Vandercook No. 4 press. Globe measures approximately 5.5 inches in diameter. This work is available for viewing at the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection.
Scope of work included design, research, printing, trimming, and construction.
